The Soft Natural body type
Blunt, slightly broad bone carrying soft flesh — the relaxed frame of a Natural with real curve laid over it.

What a Soft Natural body type is
Soft Natural is the yin-flesh member of the Natural family. The bone reads the way every Natural does — blunt rather than sharp, a little broad at the shoulder, with hands and feet that look sturdy rather than delicate — but the flesh on top of it is soft and rounded, and there is usually a visible waist that a pure Natural does not have.
That combination is why it is the most commonly mistyped of the thirteen. Read the flesh alone and it looks Romantic; read the bone alone and it looks Natural. Kibbe's answer is that bone is the part that does not change, so a soft-fleshed woman with wide, blunt shoulders is a Soft Natural rather than a Romantic no matter how curved she reads in a mirror.
Height is not the deciding factor. Soft Naturals run from around 5'2" to 5'8", and what matters is that the vertical line reads neither strikingly long nor compact. Where a Flamboyant Natural gets extra yang from a long frame, a Soft Natural gets extra yin from the flesh instead.

- What is the difference between Soft Natural and Natural?
- Flesh. Both have blunt, slightly broad bone, but a Natural's flesh reads even and moderate while a Soft Natural's reads soft and rounded, usually with a visible waist. In practice that changes the advice: a Natural wants unconstructed shapes, a Soft Natural wants soft shapes that still acknowledge the waist.
- How is Soft Natural different from Soft Classic?
- Bone width. Both carry yin flesh, but a Soft Classic's bone is symmetrical and moderate while a Soft Natural's is blunt and a little broad, particularly across the shoulders. Soft Classic can wear precise, gentle tailoring; on a Soft Natural the same garment reads stiff.
- Is Soft Natural the most common Kibbe type?
- It is one of the most commonly self-identified, and it is also the most commonly mistyped into, because a soft-fleshed body reads Romantic in a mirror while its bone says Natural. That is a good reason to answer the bone questions on shoulder and hand width honestly rather than by feel.
